Savory Holiday House

Savory Holiday House

I love the idea of thinking outside the box. While I’ve never made a gingerbread house, I can now say I’ve concocted a SAVORY Holiday House.  That’s right. Dare to be different my friends.  When makers of Cello Whisps, those yummy cheese crackers for your salad, reached out to me about making a savory house for the holidays; I was all in.  They created a little friendly competition between myself and a few other bloggers and the winner of the competition gets to gift the charity of their choice $500.  Pretty cool huh?

The walls and roof are made of Wasa Crackers. These are just flatbread crackers.  I’ve found them at many grocery stores.  You can use any sturdy cracker.  I lined the house with cranberries and rosemary for extra festive flare.

The Cello Whisps create a beautiful white cheesy sidewalk and a dusting of Cello Parmesan looks like freshly fallen snow.  I admit that making it snow on the house was really fun.

The planters and wreaths were also fun to make.  The rosemary acts just like greenery and white button mushrooms with the stems removed make the perfect little planters.

Cheese. Cheese. More Cheese.  The Glue.

Since you won’t be consuming the savory holiday house, you could just use a glue gun.  If you want to say it’s entirely edible though, purchase a Fondoodler.  Yes this is a thing.  It melts cheese like a hot glue gun so you can squeeze it on and put your house together.  You can get one on Amazon.  I mean of course you can get it there. Isn’t that where you get everything? I know I do!

I am going to use this as a centerpiece for a charcuterie board.  I think meats and cheeses would compliment this savory holiday house.  Christmas seems like the perfect time of year to play with your food.  Even if you don’t make a savory holiday house, I still highly recommend some Cello Whisps for your next holiday party. Your gluten free friends will thank you as they are made with nothing but cheese from Wisconsin.  They are an awesome alternative to typical crackers and a fab topping for your favorite salads.
