Light and Spicy Margarita (with 1800 Tequila)

Light and Spicy Margarita (with 1800 Tequila)

If you like good tequila and an easy margarita recipe you’ve come to the right place.  With some really easy swaps I’ve made a margarita recipe we can all get behind.  This Light and Spicy Margarita Recipe with 1800 Tequila is going to be a go to.  Great news, you won’t need a fully stocked liquor cabinet, a bunch of time or special skills!  It’s also a skinny margarita which means you can feel good about having more than one if you want!

Makings of a Good Margarita

A traditional margarita is often made with a sour mix, this one does not.  We also replace triple sec or orange liqueur with Orange juice which makes this classic tequila cocktail very affordable.  You can use simple syrup to sweeten it, but I like keeping it natural with a little agave nectar or honey.

The biggest key is fresh lime juice.  It has to be fresh squeezed so don’t try using bottled juice.  Make sure you have plenty of fresh ice and garnish it with a lime wedge.  I love spicy margaritas, but you can leave the jalapeno out here and just make it without if you are not into the spice.

Above all in any margarita is the tequila.  You need to have a premium tequila if you want it to taste good.  I always go for clear or blanco tequila.  1800 Tequila is my favorite and trust me this isn’t sponsored.  I just find it to be the best tasting premium tequila and it still remains pretty affordable!

A rocks glass with a salt rim is a good choice for this margarita.  I always top this with club soda or seltzer water.  I think it gives it a nice light and fizzy flavor.  It’s just not as heavy.  Again, you don’t necessarily have to do that, but I recommend it!

Tools You’ll Need for this Light and Spicy Margarita Recipe with 1800 Tequila

i just use a mason jar with a lid to make this cocktail, but you could use a cocktail shaker if you have it.  The other thing I like to have is a good citrus juicer.  I’ve linked my favorite citrus juicer and my recommend for a cocktail shaker below.  These are affiliate links and your purchase through them helps the blog.  Thank you!

Other than these items, you’ll just need your tequila, sweetener of choice, orange juice, lime juice and a jalapeno if you are using it!

This is the perfect cocktail to make at home because you just don’t need too many ingredients or special tools to make it.

Margarita Variations

I like to keep it spicy or traditional, but splash of pineapple juice and the 1800 Coconut infused tequila would be a delicious combo with an island feel.  The hint of coconut is delish with with the pineapple.  It’s the perfect drink to enjoy poolside. Think tropical vacation pina colada vibes.

You could add just about any fruit juice you like to this recipe and make it your own.  It will add just the right amount of sweetness and give you a ton of variation on this recipe.
